In a symbolic incident that likely raised eyebrows back in Washington, Egyptian security forces forced U.S.  Secretary of State John Kerry and his team of negotiators to pass through metal detectors before they met with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi at the Presidential palace in Cairo today.

Reporters at the event said security officials asked Kerry and others in his entourage to remove their jackets in order to allow an inspector to pass a magnetic wand over their garments.

Demanding that senior officials go through the process is a generally unheard-of stricture commonly waived for senior diplomatic officials on state business.

In the meeting with Kerry were deputy Chief of Staff Jonathan Finer, adviser David Thorne and State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, according to the Israeli Ma’ariv daily.

“There is a framework available to end the violence,” Kerry said Tuesday after two hours of discussions with Sisi, which apparently ended without any movement from Israel or Hamas towards an Egyptian – brokered cease-fire in the 15-day-old Operation Protective Edge.

However, “The international community is coming together… because we’ve seen too much bloodshed on all sides,” Kerry asserted to reporters after the talks with the Egyptian leader.

  1. Think about the Israeli officials forced by Condoleeza’s American diplomatic team to enter a side door at annapolis talks because of Saudi demands that Jews not enter the same door as Arabs had. What goes around comes around.

  2. Hey Kerry, while your in the area, why don’t u try to broker a cease fire in Syria and Iraq, I think there was a little more blood shed over there. Or is it possible that only Israeli bullets cause blood shed, so the tens of thousands of Arabs killed this year all over the world didn’t bleed?

What a sick world we live in. Hamas is shooting rockets and missiles indiscriminately for about 7 years. The residents of the south had to beg and plead with the government (in the past and now) to do something, we finally do something and Israel is asked to cease fire. Get rid of Hamas and there will be a cease fire.

  4. And we, miserable citizens, have to undress for the TSA and get zapped with radiation every time we take a flight. The arrogant bureaucrats aught to know what it feels like. Couldn’t of happened to a better guy.

  5. Dear John:I’m sorry to tell ypu that Bibi and Sisi have gone off together and left you stranded because of you and your Obami’s infidelity. Nobody wants to trust you anymore.I would advise you not to fly to Israel because your FAA doesnt approve.I suggest that you grab onto the next caravan from Cairo to Jerusalem

  6. Dear John:Make sure to stow away your liquids in Egypt and dont forget your Passport. It doesnt make any difference that your the one who issues it,because nobody will know who you are if you dont carry your American Express card

  7. Good for them. The Americans trashed and dumped the Egyptians because they deposed the vicious “Brotherhood” animals. So they treated Kerry like a person who cant be trusted. Good.
