Hurricane Jose strengthened to an “extremely dangerous” Category 4 storm Friday, with maximum sustained winds near 150 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm sits east of the Leeward Islands and is forecast to move west-northwest into the Atlantic Ocean over the coming days.

This is the first time on record that the Atlantic has had two hurricanes with 150-plus mph winds at the same time, Colorado State University meteorologist Philip Klotzbach said. Read more at CNN.

    • Sigh, one more time:

      I’m assuming you’re not a child.

  1. Two category 4 and 5 hurricanes in the same area at the same time (Irma and now Jose) – is unprecedented. Also, there was a major earthquake in Mexico today and another one in Japan. I think we all need to do some serious Teshuva. Any of these events by themselves is cause to reflect and better ourselves. Four at the same time is a real wake-up call!

  2. Current models show Jose making a U-turn in the Atlantic and probably petering out there. Probably being pushed east by Irma. No threat the the US.

    Hashem Yishmor.

    • The latest models actually changed Jose’s path. It has it going up north possibly striking a blow to NYC as a a Category 2-3 hurricane. This should be taken with a grain of salt, because we are still around 10 days out. But it’s something to keep an eye on.
