mor-cohenAn IDF soldier from the Golani Brigade was killed in a training accident in the North on Monday, military sources said. The accident took place in an urban warfare center on the Golan Heights, during a live-fire exercise. The soldier, Mor Cohen from Afula, was shot in the head by a bullet that according to an initial investigation penetrated one of the concrete walls inside the facility. The IDF posthumously promoted Cohen to the rank of corporal. He will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. on today at Afula’s military cemetery.

Cohen, the IDF said, was in an advanced stage of his training and was described by his commanders as an outstanding soldier. He was part of a four-man unit during the exercise. Two of the unit’s members entered one of the rooms in the facility and opened fire at their targets while Cohen and another soldier waited on the other side of the wall. One of the bullets penetrated the wall, hitting Cohen in the head. He died en route to hospital.

Golani Brigade commander Col. Avi Peled initiated an investigation and suspended all training at the facility, which was recently built and was last checked by safety inspectors in July.

Maintenance of the facility is the responsibility of the Ground Forces Command and the Logistics Corps. IDF sources said the bullet that killed Cohen likely entered a hole that had been made in the wall by previous bullets and as a result succeeded in making it to the other side.

Monday’s tragedy was the second accidental death in the Golani Brigade in recent months. In August, Sgt. Or Hadad was accidentally shot by a comrade who was playing with his weapon. The shooter, Sgt. Daniel Dresner, was sentenced in November to 27 months in prison.

  1. The same God who protected us all the last 3,300 years, that’s Who.

Do you think Israel only existed for the last 60 years like the Israelis believe?
