kidsThe following important alert is from the Flatbush Shomrim:

Pedophiles Beware: The Flatbush Shomrim Safety Patrol continues to have a zero tolerance policy for pedophiles, predators and abusers. If you feel the need to abuse or behave inappropriately against someone, get help now. Therapy will help you. If you don’t get help, you will be caught. When a call comes into our hotline we will respond and find you. In accordance with Daas Torah, you will be arrested and prosecuted.

Parents Beware: The summer months are approaching and our children will be out on the streets. Teach them to protect themselves from being touched improperly or spoken to inappropriately. An offender’s work may take just minutes. The effect it leaves lasts a lifetime.

We would like to share the following safety tips BASED ON ACTUAL EVENTS . We’ve received complaints of abuse occurring in libraries, MTA buses, car services, parks, in the streets, etc.

* Warn your children to never accept rides from strangers. Children usually take the same route every day. They stand at the same bus stops, etc. They are vulnerable. Pedophiles know this and will wait patiently before making a move. A predator may have a beard and a yarmulke and may even be a family acquaintance.

* Encourage your child to tell you about any unusual incidents. For example, an adult acting too familiar or improperly or discussing inappropriate topics with them. Anywhere. Teach your children to be alert and to identify people by memorizing clothing description, car models, license plate numbers and other details of anyone looking suspicious.

* When at the park DO NOT send your child to the restroom alone. Pedophiles lurk around parks looking for easy targets.

* NEVER send your children alone in a car service. While most drivers are fine and hardworking people, we’ve had numerous complaints involving children and adults being victimized by predators working for car services.

Report all suspicious activity to the police first by calling 911. Then, call our 24 hour Emergency Hotline at 718-338-9797. If your call is of a sensitive nature please ask our dispatcher if you can speak with a coordinator. All calls will be kept confidential.

The Flatbush Shomrim wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable summer.

  1. Let me quote you from an earlier post…with the note that the same reasoning would excuse serving cheaper treif food in our yeshivas:

“The reason the mosdos cannot pay on time is that we have these people who insist that they can’t pay full tuition, yet are schlepping their family to some resort for Pesach (obviously there are situations where that is required, and of course there are many people who can afford to do so – kol hakavod to them), and other extravagances. I can assure you that there is not a single Yeshiva that is happy about the fact that they cannot adequately compensate the people most responsible for your children’s future, and the peanuts that they are able to provide are often late. If it bugs you so much, why don’t you contribute more?”

  2. “The Flatbush Shomrim Safety Patrol continues to have a zero tolerance policy…” This seems to imply that the matter was considered, maybe even debated at length. Perhaps the tolernace level should be raised a tad? But ultimately it was decided, nah, let’s just continue keeping the level at zero, at least for now. The issue could always be revisited at a later time should an increase be warranted. Who writes this stuff?? Sheesh.

  3. Only Flatbush Shomrim has a zero Tolerance? As if to say if you do a crime in Boro park it’s ok?

    What a headliner!

  4. #10,

its an immportant saftey message, similar to o nes about driving and walking im the Catskills.

Why does this message bother you?

  5. Please recognize the importance of maintaining an open comfortable relationship with your child…so chas vshalom if he/she is in any situation that feels uncomfortable they come forward and discuss it with you.Keep those lines of communication open at all times.Your child should not feel anything falls into the category of things they can not discuss with you. This is vital in protecting our children’s mental and physical health. Unfortunately these sick people in our society are not handled the way they should be but our children must be counseled and supported to be protected.
