rubashkin-bitachon3[Video and donate link below.] Last week, a panel of three judges from the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals summarily rejected the appeal by R’ Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin’s legal defense team, and upheld Judge Linda Reade’s original refusal to grant him bail while awaiting sentencing.

R’ Sholom Mordechai continues to be incarcerated at the Linn County Correctional Center in Cedar Rapids, IA.

But his attorney, Nathan Lewin, will pursue the matter further, and take it to the full 11 Judge-panel of the 8th District Appeals Court, where he hopes the appeal will get a careful and just hearing.

In the meantime, efforts to help R’ Sholom Mordechai and his family are gaining traction. Some 900 women attended a rally Sunday evening to raise awareness of his plight. This is in addition to the 1800 women that attended a Boro Park rally two weeks earlier.

In response to the numerous inquiries and offers of help that followed, the Rubashkin Pidyon Shevuyim Fund has laid out the following areas in which your help is vital to the ongoing activities on a strictly volunteer basis:

Donate: Upwards of $1 million needs to be raised over the coming months to secure the best legal defense for R’ Sholom Mordechai. To make your donation, see below.

Sign up and become a fan of “Friends of Sholom Rubashkin” – this is important for many reasons and will be noticed by the judge.

Write a letter to Sholom Mordechai. This is more important than you may think. Make a regular habit of it and mail your letter by post to:

Linn County Correctional Center
Sholom Rubashkin
P.O. Box 608
Cedar Rapids, IA 52406-0608

Be sure to put a return address or it won’t be delivered.

Say Kapitel 51 in Tehillim for Sholom Mordechai HaLevi ben Rivka and keep his family in mind, whenever you daven, give tzedaka, or do a mitzvah. The power of positive thinking and having him in our hearts and prayers at all times is enormous.

R’ Sholom Mordechai Mordechai is denied the ability to fulfill the mitzvah of Ahavas Yisroel – a mitzvah that is dear to his heart and for which he and the Rubashkin family are so well known. Choose an act of Ahavas Yisroel every day, and dedicate it to his zchus.

The Pidyon Shevuyim office at the NCFJE office has a team of individuals working on a volunteer basis, long hours every day. As efforts expand, the need for more help grows.

They are now in need of one capable individual to coordinate efforts with the professional PR firm that has been contracted to work on this case.

If you think this is something you are good at, or know someone who is, and can join the volunteer efforts by dedicating 2-3 hours working in the NCFJE office on Eastern Parkway 2-3 times a week on a volunteer basis, contact Lena at (718) 735-0208 to arrange for an interview.

Please continue to daven for Reb Shalom Mordechai ben Rivkah.

Significant funds must still be raised for the legal defense. Anyone who can help out and can lend support should take a moment to send a donation to the Pidyon Shvuyim Fund. The help of Yidden across the globe is severely needed.

  1. Why are we so focused on the fundraising? Does the Jewish community not have any influence through public officials… We should be talking boycott. Suggest that the new buyer of the Agri plant tell them he is moving it out of state, perhaps even to Canada. I don’t know if SMR is 100% innocent, but clearly the judges are treating him much more severely than any business executive ever! For what? paying bills late, and having some illegal aliens working there… reeks of prejudice and sheer injustice.
