senator-jim-inhofeSen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., says he likely wouldn’t be alive today if Obamacare had been in effect when he received recent quadruple bypass surgery.

The 79-year-old Inhofe was having a routine colonoscopy when doctors found his arteries were so clogged he needed emergency heart surgery, Buzzfeed reports him saying in a radio interview set to air Sunday night.

In “socialized medicine like Obama is trying to impose upon America,” he could never have had his surgery because the wait time would have been too long, Inhofe told Aaron Klein’s WABC radio show.

“A person can find out, here in the U.S., that he has this emergency situation where he has got to have immediate heart surgery,” Inhofe said. “And if you are in a country other than the U.S., a lot of them, you can’t get it done. In my case, with my age, that would have been about a six-month wait. Because I hadn’t had a heart attack.”

  1. When I was in graduate school studying health care systems and comparing our system to other countries, the data would not support his assertion. It comes as no suprise that our lawmakers make such assertions based on speculation not evidence. Our system is ranked 17th in the world. I don’t support Obama care but lets not make base-less allegations.

  2. How can you say something about a regulation that is not entirely written or in effect? Obamacare has barely gotten off the docket and this senator thinks he has all the replies from its implementation? Shame on him for scaring the situation to a point that it does not shape up against its own demand.

I would like to see how this policy is implemented and of course, I trust that physicians make better decisions than bureaucracy. They should do a better job and I am not afraid.

  3. LOL! “socialized” health systems do all sort of emergency procedures, including transplants. I realize he is against obamacare (me too) but those statements are both dishonest and pathetic.
BTW in “socialized” health system, such as european ones, private health care is also available to anyone who desires and who can afford it.

  4. Maybe he would have died…but what about the people who have NO HEALTHCARE? Should the rest of us die of asthma? My healthcare – through my work – bills me $75 per month for generic asthma meds.
My sympathies to the Senator with the gold-plated, taxpayer funded policy.

  5. I had an uncle living in canada who was having chest pains, and they sent him home because there was a long wait for the machine to see if he was having a heart attack. He was niftar within twenty four hours. So much for affordable healthcare.
