emanuelDC clairvoyants say that Rahm Emanuel will leave as President Obama’s chief-of-staff in the not-too-distant future. Though once a congressman himself, Emanuel is said to be frustrated with lawmakers who won’t bend to his will. And his temper has not been well received in some quarters.

The buzz was reinforced on “The McLaughlin Group” Sunday, when Rahm was labeled “Destined for Political Oblivion by the End of 2010.”

Obama’s fiercely loyal adviser Valerie Jarrett is said to be the frontrunner to take his place.

  1. The President’s svengali and Machaivelli wanna be, Emanuel needs a personality transplant and another past time; i.e. pulling the wings off of flies.. Adios pal

  2. From your lips to God’s ear…

Rahm has an unerring ability to lose elections for Democrats. Obama would do well to replace him with Howard Dean. Let’s hope that the corporatists, Geithner and Summer will also be leaving soon. For a year we have seen Obama ignore his base and watched as his poll numbers have plummeted and Democratic candidates in key elections have lost. Obama needs to change course. Getting rid of Rahm is a good first step in that direction.

  3. I wish it was working out. He is so colorful and I think he is intensely honest. I know, I will hear an outcry on that one

  4. Great article that ecetffively illustrates how a co-op is really just a weak version of a public option. I take issue with your description of how the public option died. Obama did not let conservatives dictate the terms of this debate, spineless and unprincipled Senate Democrats did. The lesson to be learned from this impending defeat is that Obama cannot afford to give Congress so much leeway in crafting landmark legislation. He did the same thing with the stimulus and as you describe, unfortunate consequences came out of that as well. The conservatives in Congress cannot dictate the terms of the debate, only the Democratic super-majority can. Congress, however, is an inherently dysfunctional institution and it takes a strong Presidential administration to power through its agenda. Obama needs to refer to his predecessor’s ability to do just this. With a guy like Rahm Emanuel (who just last year was the Chairman of the Democratic caucus in the House) as his chief of staff, he should be able to be a lot better at getting Congress in line.
