Transportation Minister Yisroel Katz claimed that ongoing complaints of chillul Shabbos in the construction of Bnei Brak’s light railway are unfounded as the work involvespiku’ach nefesh.

“There is not and will not be chillul Shabbos in the construction of the rail,” he told a city council member. “Only underground work to prevent life-endangering collapse of infrastructure is implemented on Shabbos, and even this is with non-Jewish workers.”

He did not specify which posek provided him with the heter.

  1. Ridiculous!.Subway and rail systems get constructed the world over on 5 day work weeks, Israel should be able to construct one on a 6 day work week!

    • The Zionists’ policy is to to spite Hashem and His Torah, whether it’s railway work on Shabbos, selling pork or being the only country in the world to draft girls into the army.
