Islamic State militants are reportedly destroying yet another ancient archeological site, this time the 2,000-year-old Iraqi city of Hatra, according to the country’s tourism and antiquities ministry.
Employees of the ministry in Mosul say that the militants demolished the site today.
A resident in the area told Reuters that a powerful explosion was heard today and that other residents reported militants destroying some of Hatra’s larger buildings and bulldozing other parts. Hatra was named a world heritage site in 1987. Read more.
