ISIS May Cause Catastrophic Floods

isis2Iraqi officials said ISIS has its sight set on the second largest dam in the country, prompting fears that the militants may cause crippling floods. ISIS troops were moving towards the Haditha Dam, which is 120 miles northwest of Baghdad on the Euphrates River. Army officers are trying to halt the advance. They have warned dam employees to stay inside and to be prepared to open the floodgates if ordered to do so.

An employee said he told an Iraqi officer that such a move would cause damage. The officer said, “Yes, I know, it will be against us and our enemies.”

Potentially overtaking the Haditha Dam is just one part of ISIS’ onsalught. The insurgents are also trying to acquire their own air force. Read more at the New York Times.
