‘Isis’ Removed From Hurricane Name List



After being deemed inappropriate by the UN due to the rise of the eponymous militant group, “Isis” has been removed from the list of names for hurricanes in 2016.

It had been on the list of names for hurricanes in the eastern North Pacific in 2016, and was the name of an ancient goddess of Egypt.

It is also the name used for the militant group controlling large parts of Iraq and Syria, and has been accused of war crimes. It has been replaced by the name “Ivette.” Read more.
