Islamic State Jihadists Retake Nearly Half Of Syria Border Town

Jihadists launched a counter-attack on Albu Kamal in eastern Syria Friday and retook more than 40 percent of the town they lost a day earlier, a monitor said.

“IS started counter-attacking on Thursday night and retook more than 40 percent of the town of Albu Kamal,” Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told AFP.

After a series of defeats in the province and the loss of IS’s de facto capital Raqa further north, Albu Kamal is the only Syrian urban center left in the hands of the jihadists.
