The common dangers faced by Israel and its Arab neighbors present a “rare opportunity” to build a more peaceful and secure future in the Middle East, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the AIPAC Policy Conference via satellite Monday.

“Israel’s hand and my hand is extended to all our neighbors in peace,” Netanyahu said.

“We teach peace to our children, and it’s time the Palestinian Authority do the same,” he added, calling on the Palestinians to stop teaching hatred in schools, stop paying terrorists and stop denying Israel’s legitimacy.

The prime minister said he is “confident that the United States and Israel will stand together shoulder to shoulder, to ensure that light triumphs over darkness, and hope triumphs over despair” in the fight against militant Islam. In addition to thwarting Iran’s quest for a nuclear weapon, the world must confront Iran’s regional aggression and sponsorship of global terror, he said. Netanyahu also called for “utterly vanquishing” the Islamic State terror group.

Praising Israeli innovation and technology—such as Mobileye, whose self-driving car technology led to a recent landmark $15.3 billion deal with Intel—Netanyahu said the same ingenuity has helped Israelis build a strong army and society. But Israel would also not be where it is today “without the steadfast support” of the U.S., he said.

“I’m confident our alliance will grow even stronger in the years ahead,” Netanyahu said, noting his “exceptionally” warm meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House in February.

Netanyahu noted that Trump’s proposed foreign aid cuts will not affect U.S. aid to Israel, saying that “we appreciate that.”

“We know, as you do,” he told the AIPAC crowd, “that this support is an investment in our common security and our common future, because we confront the same enemies and we respect the same values.” JNS.ORG
