jetblueA tense confrontation about the current conflict in Israel led to a Jewish woman being kicked off a JetBlue plane last week in Palm Beach, the Palm Beach Post reports. The trouble started when Lisa Rosenberg, a doctor boarding a flight home to New York, was overheard discussing recent events in Israel while on a phone call.

“I was saying how it was good Israel found the students that killed the Palestinian teenager and how it was exemplary not making them into heroes, but seeking to publicly try them,” Rosenberg said. “I said any other country would have made these students out to be martyrs and celebrating them.”

Rosenberg added that she had never heard of the Palestinians seeking the same sort of justice against one of their own people.

Rosenberg told the Post that after finishing her phone call, she was approached by a woman who identified herself as Palestinian and said she was offended by Rosenberg’s conversation.A verbal confrontation ensued, and Rosenberg was then asked to leave the plane.

According to Rosenberg’s account, that the woman threatened her daughter, used racial slurs and insisted that Rosenberg be removed from the plane. While JetBlue confirmed to the Postthat Rosenberg was asked to leave the plane, a representative said Rosenberg’s account didn’t match the airline’s report of the situation.

Updated: The blogger Flyingwithfish read the airline’s internal reports, which “squarely paint Dr. Rosenberg as the sole instigator of the events on board Flight 454,”

Furthermore both internal reports of the incident clearly lay out Dr. Rosenberg as the person who was in the midst of spewing hateful comments towards the Palestinian passenger in seat 9C, not vice versa.

  1. it is very unwise to talk about such controversial things in public, like mendel said, we are in golus and chilul hashem can be caused even when you have every right to talk

  2. #1 ‘& #3 your answers are hollow.

There is outright racism & hatred for Jews and particularly for Israel’s fight for survival. The Islamist world is aggressive for their religious & skewed historical agenda…. We must protest & demonstrate against Jewish rights that are trampled & voided. Know the facts!!
Call, write, email JetBlue with your anger (in a respectful manner) & let them know that we are disappointed with their behavior.

  3. I hope our Jewish Doctor can find a good Jewish Lawyer to sue the pants off Jet Blue and if that Arab is rich, she also

  4. I emailed JetBlue. Their response was kind of lame. Here it is:

As New York’s Hometown Airline, we’re no strangers to diverse opinions and cultures. After all, New York is THE cultural melting pot of the world, and New Yorkers are world renowned for their ability to share their opinions. We’re also proud to have customers and crewmembers that represent this rich mix of cultural backgrounds. So being a forward thinking airline with the deepest respect for the various cultures and beliefs of our 30 million customers a year, you can imagine our crewmembers’ collective pain when we’re accused of discriminatory practices.

The story presented by a customer is certainly riveting, and we understand that many who have read it feel entitled to get all the juicy details. However, out of respect for the privacy of our customers – even those who tell stories we don’t necessarily agree with – we will not share additional details for public discourse and will only say that the story presented in media reports in no way reflects the accounts from our crewmembers or customers on board.

We recognize that many observers of the story desire all the details so they can make their own judgments, and for many their opinion will be set regardless of any additional detail shared. We just request those who do feel the need to pass judgment take a moment to reflect on any of their past experiences with JetBlue and our award winning service, and think about the diversity of the 80,000 daily customers we serve before taking every story you see as fact.

JetBlue does not engage in discrimination on any basis. Maintaining the highest standards of safety for all of our customers and crew is our primary concern and JetBlue’s fundamental value. The decision to remove the customer from the flight in this instance was made in support of that value.

  5. I read the blogger’s posting as well and indeed it is possible the airline’s reports are accurate but
We do not know what lead Dr. Rosenberg to go off against the passenger 9C. The incident report begins at as certain point in time a snapshot and may not paint a whole picture. Further Ms. 9C might have intimidated any surrounding passengers from taking the Dr.’s side. It is possible that both versions combine to give a complete picture. Additionally we do not know who the flight attendant is and if she has any animus towards Jews. So let’s keep an open mind.

  6. Thank you for keeping us up to date on this important story. This story has all the elements of a Jewish classic. Daresay that it is an Akeida for our own era.
    Thank you matzav!!
