A Russian plane was downed in Syria last night after an Israeli air strike in Latakia.

The Russian government is claiming that Israel used the Russian plane as a cover for Latakia airstrike. Only one minute warning given and the Russian plane didnt have time to reach to a safe area.

IDF Spokesperson’s announcement:

Israel expresses its regret over the death of the crew of the Russian plane that was shot down as a result of Syrian anti-aircraft fire.

Israel places full responsibility for the incident on the Assad regime whose army down the Russian plane.

Israel also sees Iran and Hezbollah as partners in this unfortunate event.

Israeli warplanes attacked a Syrian army facility from which they were about to transfer systems for producing accurate and lethal weapons for Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

This weapon is intended to attack Israel and constitutes an intolerable threat to Israel.

Between the IDF and the Russian army, a friction prevention mechanism has been agreed upon between the leaders of the two countries and has proved itself many times in recent years.

An initial investigation of the incident revealed that:
A. Extensive and inaccurate Syrian anti-aircraft fire caused damage to the Russian plane and its fall.
B. When the Syrian army fired the missiles that hit the Russian plane, Israeli Air Force planes were already in Israeli territory.
C. While the attack was being carried out against the target in Latakia, the Russian plane that was hit was not in the area of operation.
D. Syrian anti-aircraft batteries fired indiscriminately and we did not bother to make sure there were no Russian planes in the air.

Israel will provide the Russian government with all the information necessary to clarify the incident and to refine the facts presented in this investigation.
