The Israeli Air Force has struck “terrorist infrastructure” belonging to Hamas in the Gaza Strip in response to a rocket fired at southern Israel earlier on Friday.

This is the first Israeli air strike carried out by Israel in the Gaza Strip since Operation Protective Edge during the summer.

No fatalities have been reported in the strike. The “attack constituted a response to the steep trajectory rocket fire towards Israeli territory at the noon time hours,” a statement by an IDF spokesperson said, Yedioth Achronoth reported.

Earlier in the day residents of the Eshkol Regional Council, an Israeli community located close to the border with Gaza, heard a Code Red alarm. Residents later reported witnessing blasts, and IDF forces discovered that a rocket had landed in an open area. This was the third rocket launched from Gaza that landed in Israel since the summer’s conflict
