Israeli Commissioner: I Will Save Religious Firefighters’ Beards

1

At a meeting with Ashkenazi Israeli Chief Rabbi Rav Dovid Lau, Firefighting Commissioner Dudi Simchi said that contrary to recent reports, he is fully committed to protecting the rights of religious firefighters. He agreed to appoint an expert panel to determine how to provide them with smoke masks which do not require them to shave their beards.

The two also discussed the need to appoint a new chief rabbi for the Firefighting Service. Former Chief Rabbi Rav Menachem Pearl resigned in protest against an alleged lack of religious services for observant firemen.
