Israel’s Ministerial Committee for Legislation has approved an amendment to the “Muezzin bill,” which seeks to impose limits on the Muslim call to prayer in Israel, paving the way for the bill to be voted on in the Knesset, Maan News reports.

The bill was modified to prevent the use of loudspeakers by religious institutions only between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., after Minister of Health Yaakov Litzman filed an appeal against the draft law in November out of fear that it could also affect use of sirens for the weekly call for Shabbos. Violations of the ban on loudspeakers during those hours will be fined 10,000 shekels ($2,665).

The bill will be submitted to the Knesset on Wednesday and will have to go through three rounds of votes before it can pass into law.
