Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked will hold a special meeting with Interior Minister Silvan Shalom and Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein to discuss ways to stop the infiltration phenomenon of illegal aliens.
“The dozens of infiltrators who entered into Israel in the past few weeks have done so by putting a ladder over the fence and jumping over it,” Shaked wrote on her Facebook page.
“I have said in recent years that the fence alone will not stop infiltration, only a concrete law which will bring down the motivation to come here,” she declared.
“I spoke to interior minister Silvan Shalom and to Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein about this issue and we have agreed to meet as soon as possible to discuss the tools to stop this phenomenon,” she explained.
The phenomenon of infiltration of illegal aliens into Israel from the southern border is a long standing problem.
According to the Israeli Population Immigration and Border Authority, over 64,000illegal aliens entered Israel by 2014. Most of them come from Sudan and Eritrea.
In the past decade, a massive fence was built on the border with Egypt in order to stop the phenomenon. In 2013, when the construction was finished, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the fence was successful in stopping the infiltration.
However, Shaked has noted that the problem seems to be far from over.
