In a suspected car ramming terror attack in Umm al-Hiran, a Bedouin Negev village, a vehicle driven by Yaqoub Mousa Abu Al-Qia’an slammed into a group of Israeli police officers, killing Israeli policeman 1st Sgt. Erez Levi Hy”d. He was 34 and lived in Yavneh.
The suspected terrorist, Yaqoub Mousa Abu Al-Qia’an, was shot and killed.
The attack took place during clashes over home demolitions in the town.
Police later stated that the terrorist was an “Islamic Movement activist” who “accelerated toward the officers with the intent of carrying out a ramming attack,” adding that “there are a number of wounded [officers] in various conditions.”
Police are looking into the attacker’s connections to Islamic State.
In a separate incident, Arab Joint List faction leader MK Ayman Odeh was struck in the head by a sponge-tipped bullet in the clashes and several other people were reportedly seriously wounded.
