palestinian-childrenIsraeli Ambassador to the U.N. Ron Prosor has issued a stern warning against the failure to crack down on incitement and Holocaust denial internationally, saying it would pave the way for future travesties.

“From this chamber I want to warn the world-do not close your eyes to the atrocities around you; do not turn away from the animosity that ensues,” Prosor declared during an open U.N. debate titled “War, its lessons and the search for permanent peace,” just a few days after the global community marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Prosor called on the international community to work actively toward eradicating Holocaust denial, anti-Semitism, and racism.

“Never indulge racism; never ignore incitement; never be silent when confronted with the warning signs or war,” he said. “In schools, mosques and media across the Middle East, people are being taught to hate, vilify and dehumanize Israelis and Jews. As we speak, a generation of Palestinian children is being taught that murder is moral, racism is righteous and terror is tolerable. The Palestinian Authority’s media quotes Hitler, describes Jews as less than human, and displays maps that erase Israel’s existence,” he said.

Meanwhile, the U.N. has continued holding events commemorating the Holocaust this week, in light of the Jan. 27 International Holocaust Remembrance Day. On Wednesday evening, the New York-based nongovernmental Holocaust education organization “March of the Living” celebrated 25 years of activity, including some 220,000 participants from around the world who joined the march, which brings students from around the world to Poland. The U.N. hosted an exhibit honoring the organization’s work, titled “When You Listen to a Witness, You Become a Witness.”
