Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon led a 2,000-participant conference, “Ambassadors Against BDS,” at the U.N. this week in New York City.
A partnership of the Permanent Mission of Israel to the U.N. and global pro-Israel organizations, the conference welcomed students, diplomats, Jewish leaders, and pro-Israel activists. It included a performance by Jewish reggae star Matisyahu.
Danon called on the attendees to unite against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
“The truth is the best weapon in the battle against the lies and distortions of BDS,” Danon said. “BDS is modern-day anti-Semitism and we must unite to reveal its true face and put an end to its ideology of hatred and lies.”
“Form this lectern in the parliament of nations, we must continue to work—we must change the reality on campuses, in courthouses, and here at the U.N. We will not let the forces of hate to demonize Israel. Together, we will overcome the BDS movement,” he added.
“I wonder if those who support the boycott against Israel understand the real meaning behind this movement. These activists are calling for the destruction of the state of Israel. Don’t be mistaken, the BDS movement doesn’t support the Palestinian people. This campaign is intended to delegitimize Israel—it is an effort to deny the Jewish people the right of self-determination,” said World Jewish Congress President Ron Lauder at the event.
