koselA Jewish Israeli man has been shot  near the Kosel in Yerushalayim after a guard mistook him for a Palestinian terrorist, police say.

Hundreds of mispallelim were davening Shacharis at the time. The area has been closed to visitors.

The incident took place at about 7:40 a.m.

A police spokesman said the guard drew his weapon and fired a number of shots at the man because of hearing him shout “Allahu Akbar” (God is great, in Arabic).

The man was seen pulling something from his pocket as he emerged from a public bathroom at the Kosel, one report said.

  1. While this is an unfortunate accident, had the guard not shot him and he WAS a terrorist, everyone would be wondering why he hesitated to shoot when lives were at stake. Based on the reality of terrorism, you must sometimes act immediately and not waste time checking into a background of mental illness. I’m sorry for the victim but the guard did the right thing.
