Jews Are Leaving Yerushalayim Due to Severe Housing Shortage

yerushalayimSome 18,000 Jewish residents of Yerushalayim move away from the city annually – some 320,000 in total over the last two decades – due to a severe shortage in available housing.

Over the last decade, only 2,000 new housing units have been built every year (according to the Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies, while annual demand is around 4,000 to 4,500.

If this migration continues, the relative percentage of Yerushalayim’s Jewish population is bound to shrink and the percentage of the Arab population, which is currently approaching 40%, will continue to increase.

  1. Something is missing in the article. Why does the housing shortage affect only Jews? Are Arabs allowed to build while Jews are not? Are Jews not allowed to move in to certain areas while Arabs can go as they please? Jewish state?! More likely Judenrat state.
