carterFormer President Jimmy Carter tells Big Think that even as the fight over Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell continues, he believes Americans are ready for their first toeivahnik president.

Carter says the response to the presidential campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have done a lot to melt the resistance to having someone living a toeivah lifestyle in the White House:

Step-by-step, we have realized that this issue of [toeivah] has the same adverse and progressive elements as when we dealt with the race issue 50 years ago, or 40 years ago. So I would say that the country is getting acclimated to a president who might be female, who might, obviously, now, be Black, and who might be as well a [toeivah] person.

  1. How can Carter equate discrimination against someone because of skin color,

with being against the violation of Hashem’s Law forbidding the practice of the Toeivah?

  2. Re 6 and making analogies: EVERYONE does. In the world at large many people feel that this is as big a form of bigotry as racism (even though the pres. isn’t in favor of legalizing marriage, but I digress). It’s a serious issue and one we need a vocabulary for.
