jimmy-carterFormer US President Jimmy Carter has hit out at long-time critic and Republican senator John McCain, suggesting he’d rather be a bad leader than a “warmonger.”

The comments came after McCain used the 39th president’s foreign policy legacy as an example of bad leadership in a criticism of President Barack Obama.

Speaking to a radio station in Phoenix, Mr McCain said: “I have never seen anything like this in my life. I thought Jimmy Carter was bad, but he pales in comparison to this president in my opinion.”

Carter, a Democrat who was elected President in 1977, had McCain’s comments put to him during an MSNBC interview at the John F Kennedy library in Boston.

“That’s a compliment to be coming from a warmonger,” Carter said – prompting applause from the audience.

“I have great admiration for him – Senator McCain was a hero in the navy as I was and suffered terribly as a prisoner of war – but in almost every debate in the Senate and public TV he always makes the choice of the most violent response to any challenge to our nation.

“He wants to go to war in this country and that country, and when President Obama refrains from taking the most extreme military action that’s when John McCain compares him to me.

“I was lucky enough, when I was president, to keep our country at peace and provide peace for others. I was lucky enough to go through my four years – we never dropped a bomb, never fired a missile, we never shot a bullet.”

  1. a senile fool who wasan idiot when he was president and nothing has changed.(except since hes “an elder statesman” people think that what he has to say has value).

  2. Leave it up to the peanut farmer!
444, Mr. Carter! On your watch! So much for your governing ability! They were out almost as quickly as you left 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. And the world was never the same!

  3. Wide mood. Less gratifying.

Carter has an axe in one hand and his own butterflies in another.

I am not sure if he is going to chop down a tree or just line up the dead.

Scary to see this man is such an overt powerful elite.

We can improve in his absence.

    Terrible hopes.

  4. Operation Eagle Claw (or Operation Evening Light or Operation Rice Bowl)[1] was a United States Armed Forces operation ordered by US President Jimmy Carter to attempt to end the Iran hostage crisis by rescuing 52 diplomats held captive at the embassy of the United States, Tehran on 24 April 1980. Its failure, and the humiliating public debacle that ensued, damaged US prestige worldwide. Carter concluded that the failure to free the hostages played a major role in Ronald Reagan’s victory in the 1980 US presidential election.[2]

  5. “That’s a compliment to be coming from a warmonger”

No, Jimmy, you’re complimenting a true hero by calling him a warmonger. See, according to you, anyone who doesn’t roll over in the face of the threat is a warmonger. Thank G-d you were president in a less threatening world, or we wouldn’t be around to talk about it.

Now, go back to your peanuts.

  6. Luck had nothing to do with it.
He watched and did nothing as Iran disintegrated and was taken over by religious madmen. He attempted to rescue the hundreds of hostages taken by Iran and failed dismally, largely due to poor planning. During his presidency, the US experienced drastic shortages of oil.
The man was and is inept.
When he was running for re-election, the joke went that the choice between him and Reagan was an actor versus a clown.

  7. Jimmy, just go back to sleep!
It is mind boggling how you spent the last 35 years walking around as if you were the greatest president who ever lived. No one is interested in what you have to say! You are lucky that Obama surpassed you in being THE worst president. If not for him you would be THE NUMBER ONE WORST PRESIDENT. If only a Ronald Reagan was able to try to fix your damage, then there is hope that the next president will be pretty solid indeed!!
