Joe Lieberman to Teach at Yeshiva University

joe-liebermanFormer Senator Joseph Lieberman has been appointed a professor at Yeshiva University for the 2014-2015 academic year and has been named the Joseph Lieberman Chair in Public Policy and Public Service.

According to the AP, Joe will teach an undergraduate course and give three public lectures on topics ranging from Judaism and public service to the Middle East.

Lieberman represented Connecticut in the U.S. Senate between 1989-2013 and was Al Gore’s running mate during the 2000 presidential campaign but was re-elected to the Senate as an independent in 2006.

According to the AP report, Lieberman received an honorary doctorate from Yeshiva in 1989 for his leadership in Jewish and civic affairs.

The position was established through a gift from Ira and Ingeborg Rennert.

  1. I hope he gets some on-the-job training from his fellow professors. Teaching is not an “anybody can do it” kind of job – college teaching included. Personal experience here – keeping a mitchy grade-schoolkid in his/her seat is nothing compared to the kinds of questions that undergrads can come up with. Plus, making up and grading exams requires experience and/or expert help. Being a great senator is not necessarily adequate preparation for being a great teacher. I’m not saying that he can’t do it, just that he needs to learn an additional skill set.

    Teaching is not a simple job. We underrate our teachers here in the US and our students’ performance shows it.
