Petra Laszlo, who was working for Hungary’s N1TV, sparked international furor Tuesday when images surfaced of her attempting to trip refugees as they fled from police across fields in southern Hungary.
“I am just a woman, a mother who is now unemployed, who made a bad decision in a panicked situation,” Laszlo said in a letter to Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet. “I am truly sorry.”
She added she didn’t deserve the “witch hunt” that followed on social media, which included death threats. “I am not a heartless, racist, children-kicking camerawoman.”
