It is unconstitutional for public officials, including the president, to block Twitter followers who criticize them, a court ruled today in a legal dispute over President Trump’s account.

The lawsuit, brought by Columbia University’s Knight First Amendment Institute, argued that Twitter users blocked by @realdonaldtrump had their First Amendment rights violated.

In a decision posted today, a federal judge hearing the case ruled that Twitter’s “interactive space,” where users can interact with Trump’s tweets, qualifies as a public forum, and that blocking users unconstitutionally restricts speech. The decision rejected arguments from the president’s team that President Trump’s own First Amendment rights would be violated if he could not block users. Read more at The Verge.

  1. But blocking anti-Hillary tweets during the 2016 campaign was fine. And blocking conservative views is also fine. The hypocrisy and double-standard is sickening.

Why doesn’t President Trump have his own social networking service where he’ll be able to block all those liberal gangsters.

  2. The hate for him has no bounds, now they are going to sue someone about blocking the use of twitter. President Trump uses twitter all the time so I can’t believe now his people say you can’t use it unless you say something nice???? these stories can blow your mind for the hate and desperation of some people.

  3. According to this logic, it is a violation of the first amendment for an elected official to walk away from a screaming protester in a street. Wonder if the liberal-fascist hypocritical judge has the same “pro first amendment” position when it comes to those that disagree with the judge in his or her courtroom.
