flowersLife is anything but rosy for illegal flower peddlers in Borough Park.

Cops in the predominantly frum neighborhood are cracking down on the unlicensed hawkers after legit florists complained they are costing them between $5,000 and $10,000 a week in sales.

The squeeze comes on the eve of Shavuos.

“We’re going to be enforcing illegal vendors and making sure the legal vendors comply with their licenses,” NYPD Deputy Inspector Michael Deddo, of the 66th Precinct, recently told a meeting of community leaders that was attended by at least 20 neighborhood florists.

“We don’t want to see our shops have to shut their doors because somebody’s not paying taxes. ”

Since Friday, cops from the precinct issued 13 summonses to illegal flower vendors, and even seized products from four peddlers, said NYPD spokeswoman Inspector Kim Royster.

We should have had this done long ago!
A truck pulls up every Friday morning to 16th Av. & 50th street. The goyisher proprietor celebrates our Shabbos and the Yiddishe stores have to stand and watch out breeder run to patronize the goy in the band of kabod Shabbos.
So what of our flowers are less exotic – they’re nicer cuz a Yid also has simchas Shabbos when we buy from him.Mollie, formerly on Ave. J & McDonald, had to close up b ecause of a goy who opened up just across the street and sold at cut-rate prices!

  2. Well, peddlers don’t usually sell esrogim in the streets of Boro Park, do they? I haven’t lived there in eight years, but I don’t recall seeing tables with esrogim in the streets. In Shomer Shabbos, perhaps. But then, do seforim mochrim have licenses to sell esrogim? Maybe they do.

  3. Well it’s about time! Yes, they should stop these greedy esrog dealers & shaimos trucks as well! News flash: There IS dina demalchusa dina! That may shock you! Do it the eirliche way. Why put us out of honest, play by the rules, tax paying business’? These fly by night, hit & run scams should be arrested!

  4. To A Caring Yid:
If the “goyisher proprietor” is selling the same product for a few dollars less then the “yiddisher proprietor” then our breeder who buys from the goy will have a few extra dollars in his pocket to maybe spend on something else. I’m not talking about or condoning the illegal proprietors but puhleeeez everyone knows that many Jewish proprietors rip off their tiereh breeder just because they can.

  5. #3 GOOD MORNING.
WALL TO WALL STREET TO STREET

    INCLUDE AVE J .

MOST OF THEM OR MANY OF THE TABLES ARE OWNED FROM ONE PERSON. BUT IT EMPLOYS LOCAL YESHIVA KIDS. AND THE PROFITS ARENT TRANFERRED TO MEXICO….

  6. they sure do sell on the street – take a walk down 13th ave the week before sukkos – tables and tables of esrogim, lulavim, decorations….
Anyway it makes such a mess – you can’t even walk. Someone should find an empty lot and make each seller pay for a “stand” to sell and everyone should go there to buy. Maybe some askanim can arrange it.

  8. Not sure what world you’re living in! Are you kidding? 13th Ave/Ave. J/Coney Island Ave, etc… is flooded with esrog tables! The crooks hire these young naive bochurim to stand by these make shift tables and illegaly sell their esrogim! Please, you’ve got to come back to reality!
