Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens said that the government should compensate Guantanamo Bay detainees who are still being held after posing no imminent threat to the United States.

“I by no means suggest that every Guantanamo detainee, such as those who have been convicted by a military commission, is entitled to compensation,” Stevens said.

Currently there are 57 inmates that have been approved for transfer out of the 127 total still remaining in the prison.

The Pentagon is trying to expedite this process ahead of impending congressional action that could restrict transfers. more at The Washington Post.
