The mashgiach is the vital link in the chain to ensure that our food is kosher. The mashgiach, longtime the “unsung hero,” is about to receive some due honor through a special award being presented by Kashrus Magazine.
“We wanted everyone – the consumers, the companies, and the kashrus agencies – to appreciate just how important the mashgiach is to the entire process of kosher,” said Rabbi Yosef Wikler, editor of Kashrus Magazine. “We went to our advertisers and asked them to sponsor this project. The mashgiach who is chosen as “Mashgiach of the Year” will receive a minimum of $1,000 in cash and merchandise.”
The sponsors of the “Mashgiach of the Year” award include A&B Famous Gefilte Fish; Main Menu freezer-to-oven products; Paskesz Candy; www.koshervitamins.com, a division of Landau Trading; Estihana Restaurant in Brooklyn; and Chai-Ko-Tapas Restaurant in Teaneck, NJ. These companies were happy to sponsor the award because they are appreciative of the service that their mashgichim provide.
The “Mashgiach of the Year” will be chosen from those mashgichim who have been nominated by their kosher-certifying organization. Many kosher-certifying agencies have already submitted their recommendations for this award. Nominations for the award will be accepted only directly from kosher-certifying agencies. Anyone who feels that a particular mashgiach is worthy of the award should contact the kosher-certifying agency for whom the mashgiach works.
The announcement of the winner will be made in September. Kashrus Magazine‘s September-October issue will feature an interview with the “Mashgiach of the Year.” To receive a free copy of that interview, email Kashrus Magazine at firstname.lastname@example.org,or send a self-addressed stamped envelope to Kashrus, Mashgiach Award, P.O.
