kerryJohn Kerry apologized Monday for warning last week that the lack of a two-state solution in the Middle East could lead to Israel becoming an “apartheid state.” Kerry’s remarks, made in a closed door meeting of the Trilateral Commission and first reported Sunday night, provoked strong reactions from across the political spectrum.

Here is his response:

“For more than thirty years in the United States Senate, I didn’t just speak words in support of Israel, I walked the walk when it came time to vote and when it came time to fight. As Secretary of State, I have spent countless hours working with Prime Minister Netanyahu and Justice Minister Livni because I believe in the kind of future that Israel not only wants, but Israel deserves. I want to see a two state solution that results in a secure Jewish state and a prosperous Palestinian state, and I’ve actually worked for it.

“I will not allow my commitment to Israel to be questioned by anyone, particularly for partisan, political purposes, so I want to be crystal clear about what I believe and what I don’t believe.

“First, Israel is a vibrant democracy and I do not believe, nor have I ever stated, publicly or privately, that Israel is an apartheid state or that it intends to become one. Anyone who knows anything about me knows that without a shred of doubt.

“Second, I have been around long enough to also know the power of words to create a misimpression, even when unintentional, and if I could rewind the tape, I would have chosen a different word to describe my firm belief that the only way in the long term to have a Jewish state and two nations and two peoples living side by side in peace and security is through a two state solution. In the long term, a unitary, binational state cannot be the democratic Jewish state that Israel deserves or the prosperous state with full rights that the Palestinian people deserve. That’s what I said, and it’s also what Prime Minister Netanyahu has said. While Justice Minister Livni, former Prime Ministers Barak and Ohlmert have all invoked the specter of apartheid to underscore the dangers of a unitary state for the future, it is a word best left out of the debate here at home.”

  1. I looked for the words “I’m sorry” or ” I apologize” and didn’t see anything. All I see is long-winded politic-speak. It’s amazing how grown adults are little kids and just can’t say “I’m sorry”. It’s like it costs a million dollars to do so.

  2. Criminal. He hopes for privilege and offers bland speech. His diet is reform for the music of honesty and his privilege is cost spent limit of better diatribe.

Mr. Kerry was rightfully singled out by the Swift Boat reflections. His service was honesty but with an affliction of self made form.

Kerry eats with a silencer on his fork and beats the drum of irrelevance for the ideal of judgment.

I can not stant false pretenses.

This was not only a blame the cook session, it was an “I’m not responsible for my grave and my father looked the other way” session.

He is a criminal of benign formatted inheritance negligence and his face is no longer aplicable for peace and prosperity in a growing middle east.

Throw away his pen. His disgrace is unforgivable until he does a trusted apology and leaves this office.

All will break loose before Kerry apologizes for intemperment.

    Criminal mind.

    Never again.

  3. Have you noticed people always apologize after they are found in trouble. Usually what they first said is what they really believe the after words are to make peace with those outraged. Better to remain silent in the first place so not to have to falsely apologize secondly.

  4. “I will not allow my commitment to Israel to be questioned by anyone, particularly for partisan, political purposes, so I want to be crystal clear about what I believe and what I don’t believe.”

Remarkable no matter what I say in private or in public, no matter what the words mean do not allow anyone judge what I say. I am not an Anti-Semite because I say am not. What is next “some of my best friends . . . “

  5. That’s not an apology. this weasel is trying to spin what he said. The lying media should cover this at least as much as the comments made by the Clippers owner.

  6. From #3 “Good. Now can we get the Leftist politicians in Israel to apologize for having used the same word?”

Sorry. There is NO moral equivalency between the Leftist Politician who just happens to be the Secretary of State of the United States — #4 in succession to the President, mind you — and some two-bit Arab political back-benchers in Israel.

The “A-word” is not something that is loosely tossed around by leadership in the highest echelons of power in the United States of America.

  7. he sticks to what he said and regrets using the word, but his statement clearly affirms he believes everything he said and regrets usign the word BECAUSE it sparked controversy. Why would the above article claim he apologized for what he said ?

  8. when you are in that position there are no sorrys or politicel talk once you said it it is done. mr kerry say goodbye to eny “respect” you wished you had!!!!!!!!!!!!
