john-kerrySecretary of State John Kerry has said that Israel risks becoming “an apartheid state” if there is no two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Kerry’s comments were published on Sunday by The Daily Beast news website, which obtained a recording of his remarks on Friday to the Trilateral Commission, a non-governmental organisation which includes senior officials and experts from the US, Western Europe, Russia and Japan.

“A two-state solution will be clearly underscored as the only real alternative. Because a unitary state winds up either being an apartheid state with second class citizens – or it ends up being a state that destroys the capacity of Israel to be a Jewish state,” said Kerry.

“Once you put that frame in your mind, that reality, which is the bottom line, you understand how imperative it is to get to the two-state solution, which both leaders, even yesterday, said they remain deeply committed to.”

The Daily Beast reported that senior US officials have rarely used the term in reference to Israel.

Jen Psaki, the spokesperson for the US State Department, said: “Secretary Kerry, like Justice Minister Livni, and previous Israeli Prime Ministers Olmert and Barak, was reiterating why there’s no such thing as a one state solution if you believe, as he does, in the principle of a Jewish State.”

“[Kerry] was talking about the kind of future Israel wants and the kind of future both Israelis and Palestinians would want to envision. The only way to have two nations and two peoples living side by side in peace and security is through a two state solution. And without a two state solution, the level of prosperity and security the Israeli and Palestinian people deserve isn’t possible,” she added.

Kerry has been conducting more than a year of intensive shuttle diplomacy trying to broker Israeli-Palestinian peace.

Earlier in April, he urged Israeli and Palestinian leaders to prevent the negotiations from collapsing, saying it was regrettable that both sides have taken steps recently that are not helpful in promoting peace and ending the decades-long conflict between the two sides.

The “crime of apartheid” include “inhumane acts… committed in the context of an institutionalized regime of systematic oppression and domination by one racial group over any other racial group or groups and committed with the intention of maintaining that regime,” according to the 1998 Rome Statute.

Apartheid was institutionalized from 1948 to 1994 in South Africa, and was a means of racial classification and segregration.

  1. Kerry is desperately trying to sound like a diplomat – and failing miserably.

What a shanda for the United States.

  2. Kerry cleans his house with an ape suit that he buys from a containment bureau for lost and found hatred. This is a man who walks upright, talks with a spending tongue and then walks into the mirror room and simplifies his haircut by rerouting his own favor for Time.

Good for the penny. Bad for the nose.

    Never Again.

  3. Using “apartheid” as a reference to Israel. How disgusting is that? Democrats, it seems, are always beyond reproach. Kerry should be vilified like Donald Sterling for using such degrading references about America’s ally.

The Obama Doctrine: Isolating our allies and promoting our enemies.

And THIS is what over 3/4 of American Jews voted for in the last two Presidential elections?

  4. “Hey!… Give me a break!….I’m not saying Israel SHOULD be ostracized & boycotted. I’m just saying that that MAY just happen to my good friend if they don’t mend their ways….. I’m not saying Israel IS guilty of the crime of APARTHEID. I’m just saying that people MAY look at it that way….”

And I’M not saying Kerry is intentionally fomenting hatred of Israel throughout the world in an unprecedented terrible characterization of Israel by a senior US official as a RACIST state, in order to force his ill-conceived, naive, ivory-tower ideas for “peace” with the Arabs, on Israel….for the sake of his own political stature. I’m just saying that people MAY look at it that way….

    We have no friends!
As the saying goes, “A friend in need is a friend indeed!
Play on the last word? …is a friend in “deed” – not just emptytalk!!

  6. Overlooked Psychology of the Arab-Israeli Peace Process
by Mr. Cohen, moderator of the Derech Emet yahoo group, 2014 April 27

In one of the most famous Bible stories, King Solomon threatened to cut a baby in half to satisfy the claims of two women who claimed possession of the same baby.

The fake mother did not object to cutting the baby in half, but the real mother begged King Solomon to not do it, because the real mother did not want to see her baby die.

The Arabs are very familiar with this Bible story, and they apply it to the conflict over possessing “Palestine.” The Arabs believe that just as the fake mother in the court of King Solomon was willing to divide the baby, the Israelis are fake owners of “Palestine” because they are willing to divide it.

According to this logic, the Arabs can never truly agree to less than 100% of “Palestine,” because doing so would make them like the fake mother in the court of King Solomon, who was willing to divide the baby.

Amazingly, Israel-bashing professors and journalists who consider themselves paragons of erudition are not aware of this widespread Arab belief.

Actually the real problem is that I am a blue state democrat. I do not wish to see the envy of New York become a ball game for the swamp of success. I guess if you call it as it is, you have to be true to Jewish Values before you vote with your conscious. It would be good if Mr. Kerry just stood up and took his cues from the right stuff of personal enlightenment. He is a dead flag.
    Sorry.

  8. With frinds like him you dont need enemies. The man has overstaidhis welcome.Israel should place him on its sanctions list.Since the chief Jihadist has called for the kidnapping of Americans, why not offer him Kerry?

  9. We hope that the Orthodox Union, The National Council of Young Israel and the Agudath Israel will come out with some statement to counter the extremely harsh description which our Secretary of State has labeled , the State of Israel.

We hope this is donein a respctful and speedy manner.

Our President and his Secretary seem to have an agenda of their own to fulfill before leaving office.

We must be respectful and however most forthright to stand up for our interests.
