[UPDATE BELOW] Lakewood, NJ – It was at 2 p.m. at the Singin gas station, between Central Avenue and Cedar Bridge Avenue in Lakewood, when a person offered a homeless man, Ron, $5. But it wasn’t an act of kindness. The person took two coffees he had just bought and told Ron that if he’d pour one of the coffees on his head, he’d give him $5. Ron, desperate for the money, agreed. The person recorded this with his video camera and laughed. Then he offered some spare change if Ron would pour another coffee on his head.

A local Lakewood resident, Ari Boyer of MBD Moving, heard about this terrible incident and tracked down the 65-year-old Ron, who lives in a dugout off of Cedar Bridge Avenue.

He asked Ron to relate the story and then offered to help him.

“Nobody should be doing that to you,” said Ari, who offered to take Ron for a haircut, clean him up, treat him to a delicious meal, and get him back on his feet. “We’ll get you whatever you need,” promised Ari.

The Lakewood Police Department issued the following statement regarding this story that was first reported by Matzav.com:

“The Lakewood Police Department would like to thank all of you who brought the incident regarding the homeless man to our attention earlier today. It’s because of you, that situations like this, are able to be investigated and resolved quickly.

“We would like to inform you that Officer Chase Messer was able to identify and locate all of those involved. After further investigation it was determined, that although the incident occurred in poor judgement, it did not rise to a criminal act.

“Evidence in the case revealed that both parties were willing participants and no one was injured.”

  1. The second guy is out for the same facebook likes the first one wanted. If he wants to do good he should put away the camera

    • If someone does something wrong on camera for the world to see, then the person who is trying to make it right goes under scrutiny by you?

  2. I know this Ari guy personally, he only took that video so he can prove the story really happened. He sent it to the authorities in lakewood and it leaked from there. He is a guy that would go out of his way for anyone and everyone. If he wanted to be famous he would’ve said his last name and out his face there. You should be ashamed of yourself for thinking people are maybe like u hoping for fame.

  4. It is attitudes such as this that allows the root attitude to continue to persist. It is my opinion that we need to rethink our outlook in light of such an incident.

  5. ??? how can you go hate someone who went out of his way to reach out to this homeless man who has a disgusting act happen to. and he ask that this video not be published!! and does not even say his name….. just very sad what this gulos has turned people in to. makes me sick and it makes all the real holy people suffer as it is writed tzadikim suffer from sina/hat!! maybe if there would be less like you we wouldn’t have all the cholim! DERECH ERETZ KUDMA LATORAH!!

  6. To comment #1- no need to twist a good deed into how YOU want to view it. These days, people post EVERYTHING on facebook and social media- it says absolutely nothing as to what his motivations are.

  7. #1, some people like publicizing their good deeds. Better to do a good deed and publicize it, than to not do the good deed at all.

  8. Thank you Ari for the effort to right a wrong! Every! must discuss this LESSON with your children & grandchildren! And amongst each other!

  9. How do we know if Ari kept his promise? Why don’t we see a picture of Ron AFTER the haircut and shave? Something sounds very fishy about this “story”.
