lakewood-pesach-distribution[Video below.] The Kimcha D’Pischa Fund of Lakewood, a project of Tomchei Shabbos of Lakewood, NJ, is demonstrating this week that there is no nation like Klal Yisroel. With utter devotion and care, tens of volunteers gathered yesterday at Lake Terrace Hall for a massive distribution effort to provide hundreds of families with boxes of food for the upcoming Yom Tov of Pesach.

After all is said and done, the mass Kimcha D’Pischa distribution will have dispensed to 500 families 5,000 lbs. of matzoh, 7,000 lbs. of fish, 12,000 bottles of wine and grape juice, 50,000 lbs. of meat and poultry, and 110,000 lbs. of produce. This year’s Kimcha D’Pischa distribution in Lakewood will cost a staggering $500,000 – almost one quarter of Tomchei Shabbos of Lakewood’s total annual budget.

In this year’s Kimcha D’Pischa campaign, which was led by its executive director, Rabbi Yossi Schrieber, each family is receiving a delivery of 16-18 cases of food, including chicken, meat, wine, fish, fruits, vegetables, paper goods, and 20-25 pounds of shemurah matzoh.

A number of dignitaries paid a visit to the distribution center of the Kimcha D’Pischa fund yesterday. These included Rav Malkiel Kotler and Rav Yeruchem Olshon, roshei yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha. The center also saw visits from Lakewood Mayor Steve Langert, State Senator Bob Singer, Lakewood Committeeman R’ Meir Lichtenstein, Lakewood Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller, and Assemblyman and Passaic Mayor Gary Schaer.

Some 150 volunteer worked amidst intermittent rainfall to pack boxes and ensure that each family would get their Pesach packages in a timely and organized fashion. The operation continued non-stop from morning until past midnight.

Kudos to the noted askanim involved in the project, including Rav Yehuda Moshe Slomiuc, founder of Tomchei Shabbos of Lakewood; Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchok Trainer, Director of Development; Reb Binyomin Svarc, Reb Yossi Hirsch and Reb Yossi Newhouse.

The Kimcha D’Pischa campaign of Tomchei Shabbos involves literally tens of thousands of cases of food. The preparations began several weeks ago with cases of food arriving and a slew of volunteers organizing and arranging the orders to facilitate a smooth distribution.

  1. Thanks to Rabbi Trainer for making this happen . You are the glue that keeps the entire Tomchei Shabbos together . Without you it would be Askanim trying to help but without the resources to do it. Ashrei Chelkecha.
