FOUND: Kiryas Yoel Search for Missing Ten-Year-Old Boy

shimon-zorger[Update and photos below.] Monroe, NY – Members of the Kiryas Yoel community continue their search for a ten-year-old autistic boy, Shimon Zorger, who has been missing since about 6 p.m. Sunday evening, which was the last time he was seen outside his family’s home on Lizensk Boulevard, a cul de sac off of Schunnemunk Road.

Chaveirim members and hordes of volunteers have joined troopers from the New York State Police and others in searching for Shimon, who was believed to still be in the village of Kiryas Joel.

Volunteers have been dispatched from the Kiryas Yoel Public Safety (KJPS) command center on Lizensk Boulevard, with a perimeter formed around the town of Monroe and the village of Kiryas Yoel.

Shimon had been wearing a black and white striped shirt when he wandered away from his father. Shimon has wandered off before and has a tendency to hide, according to officials.

Local residents and emergency responders are helping in the search in the nearby area and woods. Responders believe the boy isn’t hurt, and state police search dogs and rescue boats have been called in to help in the search. Sources say search boats have been going to Shadow Lake and Lebanon Lake.

Anyone with information regarding Shimon’s whereabouts is asked to call the New York State Police at 845.782.8311 or the Kiryas Yoel Public Safety Office at 845.782.5577.

All are asked to say Tehillim for Shimon ben Reizel Devora.

Update: Boruch Hashem, Shimon was found safe and sound shortly before 10 o’clock this morning by New York State Trooper Danny Harter near the Vyoel Moshe school in Kiryas Yoel. It is believed that Shimon may have fallen asleep overnight.

Family members and askonim have issued thanks to the many volunteers who dedicated their time and resources during the search, and to the Yidden all over the globe who recited tefillos on Shimon’s behalf.
