Former prisoner of Zion and current speaker of the Israeli Knesset, Yuli Edelstein welcomed Los Angeles based businessman and communal leader, Stanley Treitel to his Jerusalem office where they discussed a host of issues pertaining to the Diaspora as they affect the relationship between the United States and Israel. Mr. Treitel who co-chairs the annual Iron Dome Congressional tribute in Washington as well as the Jerusalem Conference emphasized the importance of having an ongoing dialogue between Israeli officials at all levels with their counterparts in the U.S. Government.

Despite the current fragmentation in Israel’s political climate, Yuli Edelstein is widely respected by all segments of the population and has made concerted efforts to build bridges between religious and secular Jews. As a former Refusenik and observant Jew, Yuli Edelstein spent almost three years in prison on fabricated drug charges in 1984. Edelstein places a particular emphasis on engaging with leaders from the American Jewish community to gain perspective on the political scene and therefore welcomes the opportunity to meet with leaders who have their finger on the political pulse of Washington and its players.

“Mr. Edelstein is a true advocate and hero, uncompromising in his principles and steadfast in his beliefs. I value tremendously the opportunity to engage with Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein and hope that our dialogue will be the catalyst to enhancing the camaraderie between our two great countries” said Stanly Treitel after the productive conversation.
