yesodei-kolelOn a beautiful, scenic property in the heart of Monsey, one can find a unique and exceptional sight. Sitting and learning, side by side, are the bochrim of Mesivta Yesodei Yisroel and a group of dynamic Kollel Yungerleit.

For close to a decade, Yesodei Yisroel has offered its talmidim a unique program of comprehensive excellence. Young, warm, charismatic Rebbiem challenge their talmidim with advanced lomdishe shiurim. Bochrim are encouraged to complete the Mesechta they learn b’iyun as well as the Mesecha in Seder Moed that is learned during b’kiyus. The general studies program features seasoned, highly credentialed faculty who convey to the students critical analytical and communication skills.
But this Ellul, the Mesivta, already recognized for its trailblazing approach to chinuch, has added a truly innovative element that according to the Menahel, Harav Dovid Rubin, Shlita, has had far reaching repercussions. A Kollel at Metzuyanim from Eretz Yisroel and Lakewood has joined the Mesivta, participating in the same limud with the Bnei Mesivta.

“They have introduced a new level of vibrancy and excitement to our entire Yeshiva,” says Rav Rubin. Moshe Davis, an eleventh grade bochur concurs, “we can feel the geshmak and enthusiasm pulsating in the Mesivta. We especially appreciate the kesher we develop with the members of the Kollel.” This bond is reinforced by the many chavrosus that have been formed throughout the day between the Chevrei Kollel and talmidei hayeshiva.

The Rosh Hayeshiva of Yeshivos Ohr Hachaim, the parent yeshiva of Mesivta Yesodei Yisroel, Harav Doniel Lander, shlita, envisioned this Kollel as a invaluable tool in uplifting a bochur to greater heights in Limud HaTorah and Avodas Hashem. “Each Yungerman is an accomplished talmid chacham. Our talmidim have the opportunity to relate individually to our Yungerleit. The Kollel members serve as role models and sources of inspiration.”

The Rosh Yeshiva also expressed his appreciation for the name of the Kollel – “Sifsei Dov”. “My father, Rabbi Dov Berish Lander, זצ”ל, was an early advocate of the immeasurable influence a Kollel can have upon younger bochrim. Close to forty years ago he established one of the preeminent Kollelim in the city with this machshova in mind. I am truly gratified that this outstanding Kollel bears his name and carries forward his vision. We are also deeply appreciative that Reb Mechel Karfunkel, the renowned supporter of Torah, has agreed to assume the mantle of leadership as chairman of the Kollel’s Board to strengthen Harbatzos Torah and to perpetuate my father’s legacy.”

The Rosh Kollel is the well known Marbitz Torah, Harav Mattis Stern, shlita. Throughout his own many years in Kollel, first in the Brisker Kollel in Yerushalayim and then at Kollel Meor Yitzchok of Monsey, Rav Stern has earned a reputation for his special dynamism and infectious Ahavas HaTorah. The Bnei Hamesivta have already attained a new glow after hearing his powerful weekly shmuzen. Rav Stern clearly shares the excitement of his new position. “The yungerleit are forming strong bonds with the bochrim. Their daily interaction strengthens the bochrim’s chashivus for Torah and their sense of the simchas hachaim one derives from living a life of Torah.”
