governors-islandNew York – Governors Island, one of New York City’s newest public spaces, will soon be open for the summer season. In order to serve all park-goers the Trust for Governors Island is seeking Kosher food vendors to operate on site. The park, which will be open every day of the week for the first time ever, is soliciting vendors for a few days or for longer term to serve the diverse needs of the New Yorkers set to visit this summer. Councilman David G. Greenfield urges kosher vendors to quickly apply so that kosher New Yorkers may enjoy the park to its fullest. More information on the Island’s food permits may be found here: http://www.govisland.com/html/about/temp-food-permit.shtml.

Governors Island, located between Brooklyn and lower Manhattan, is a 172 acre island accessible by ferry from both boroughs. A former military base, the island is now open to the public and includes 30 new acres of park. It is also home to a school and other non-profit and community spaces. The island offers innovative play-spaces for families to explore as well as great open space for picnicking and enjoying time outdoors. The park is open seven days a week starting May 24th until September 28th from 10 am to 6 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 7 pm on weekends.

“Governors Island has developed into the City’s most exciting and creative park. This is the first year the park will be open every day of the week. It’s a perfect destination for families to explore over the summer. I am thrilled that the island is seeking kosher vendors so that all New Yorkers can enjoy refreshments on site. I urge kosher vendors to apply for this unique business opportunity that will service thousands of New Yorkers,” said Councilman David Greenfield.
