darkanu-bus-gsp[Update below. Video and photos below.] A bus of frum Lakewood, NJ, residents overturned on the Garden State Parkway in Monmouth County this morning, injuring several passengers.

State Police say the accident happened at about 5:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes just south of Exit 114 in Middletown Township.

The passengers were traveling on the chartered Darkeinu bus to Lakewood after attending a wedding in Shikun Skver (New Square), New York.

Approximately thirty-five passengers were on board, but police say about six people sustained minor injuries.

The bus turned over several times before coming to a rest on the side of the highway.

Matzav.com was told that Hatzolah members were at the scene to treat the injured and transport those who required further medical attention.

The Darkeinu Bus Company, based in Lakewood, owns and operates buses that travel each day between Boro Park, Brooklyn, and Lakewood.

A replacement bus was sent by Darkeinu to take the stranded passengers to Lakewood.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The wedding from which the bus was returning was that of Pinchos Mordechai Twerski, a son of Rav Yitzchok Twerski, who is a son of the Skverer Rebbe. The chosson‘s mother is a daughter of the Vizhnitzer Rebbe of Bnei Brak. The kallah is a daughter of Rav Boruch Benzion Twersky, rov of Bais Aharon Farshai and son of Rav Chaim Twersky, rov of Chernobyl.

Update, 10:31 a.m. EST:

Mordechai Schwartz of Darkeinu says that the driver had ample sleep and was fully awake at the time of the accident.

Also, we are told that there were twenty-seven passengers aboard the bus, not thirty or thirty-five as reported earlier in the media.

  1. #2 boruch dayan emes? boruch Hashem no one died. we only say BDE when people die. here there were only injuries, danken Got. Say some Tehillim. that’s it. And learnm some Torah as a zechus

  2. Why was the bus traveling back from Skver at 5:30 am?? They either should have waited for morning or left earlier

  3. Something is very strange about your report. A bus doesn’t just “turn over.” Something must have happened. Please let us know. Was it a mechanical malfunction? Was there another vehicle involved?
These buses are very large and difficult to operate. As one who drove a medium sized truck for several years, I can tell you that overturning is one of the biggest fears of operators of larger size vehicles. A bus like that can turn over from trying to make a sharp turn. Pehraps the driver didn’t realize how close he was to the side of the highway. There are some embbankments on the Garden State Parkway that can really send an automobile or bus or truck down a steep incline. I hope a full invesitigation will be performed.

  4. Baruch Hashem everyone was saved! What a ness! HK”BH is showing that he loves Klal Yisroel! Mir hut ah tata in himmel!

  5. this is the same bus that is parked by KOL ARJEH every SHABOSS which takes home people who are imported to daven there on shaboss and takes them home after SHABOSS
what will they do with no BUSSES

  6. #12,

That is incorrect, according to one report, driver fatigue will be CONSIDERED in the investigation. There is no way a determination can have been made official yet.

  7. Oh, I forgot, for the person who was unaware that Darkeinu chartered buses:

Yes they do. The charter division is called Lakewood Charter and the line run division which operates from Lakewood to Borough Park everyday is named “Darkanu”. This bus that flipped was registered to “Darkeinu”.
