Woodlake Country Club, one of Lakewood, NJ’s three public golf courses, has shut its doors, although the closure may only be temporary. The owners of the 150-acre course said that there has been a decline in business recently, and they have closed the club to reassess the fate of the land.

“The demand for golf at the club has declined in recent years, and [we] made the financial decision to temporarily close the club while the company determines the next best direction for the property,” a statement from the company reads.

Land on another Lakewood golf course, the Eagle Ridge Golf Club, was slated to be used for housing developments, though local and state zoning restrictions have put the project on hold. No plans have been submitted for development on the Woodlake Country Club, but given the lucrativeness of similar projects, it may be the direction that the club’s owners have in mind.

Woodlake Country Club runs from Somerset Avenue to New Hampshire Avenue, between Ridge Avenue and Route 88.
