Lakewood, NJ – Due to inclement weather, Lakewood Township has postponed the Township fireworks display scheduled for this evening, July 3. The fireworks will instead take place on Sunday evening, September 4.
The fireworks display had been scheduled to be held tonight at Lake Carasaljo in honor of America’s birthday. The fireworks shoot through the sky each year as the Lakewood Municipal Band plays music in the Lake Carasaljo Amphitheater.
Thousands of people watch the fireworks each year, from the north and south sides of the lake, and police and fire department personnel stand by to ensure the safety of all residents.
The fireworks show this year was to be held on July 3 – and, for the fifth straight year, not on July 4 – simply because it makes sense financially. A fireworks show on July 4 could cost $20,000 or more, while a show on an earlier date allows the Township to save approximately $10,000.

Why do it at all. Who needs it. Save the township money. To do it in September is ridiculous.
once its pushed off, cancel the whole thing and save more $. If you want fireworks, go to a blueclaws game, they have it every week.
Ze loh vair, li bnie torah.
and if it rains that day, “oh we never said what year. We’ll talk about it in September of 2013”
it was already paid for in advance .
I love my town!!
I wanted to see them today! Sep 4 is ridiculous!
