steven-langert1Lakewood, NJ – In a hotly contested primary battle for two three-year terms on the Township Committee in November’s general election, Deputy Mayor Steven Langert and Harold “Hal” Halvorsen defeated Hershel Herskowitz on Tuesday.

Halvorsen received the most votes Tuesday with 1,628 (37.73%), followed by Langert with 1,553 (35.99%) and Herskowitz with 1,045 (24.22). There were 89 (2.06%) write-in votes.

A total of 4,315 votes were cast. Turnout for the primary was light by all standards, with some attributing it to the fact that it was Erev Shavuos and residents were occupied with Yom Tov preparations.

Langert is in the middle of his first term on the committee.

In November, Halvorsen and Langert will run against Committeeman Ray Coles, a Democrat, and Moshe Raitzik, another Dem.

  1. Hershel Hershkowitz should have won. If voting wasn’t on Erev shavuoth and there were clear adresses of locatiions of where to vote than Harold Hershkowitz would have won by a landslide

  2. Now it’s time to replace coles at the general election. Coles was present & voted for all of the high tax burden items
