school-board-lakewoodLakewood, NJ – A testy and feisty race for three seats on the Lakewood Board of Education ended last night, as Yoni Silver, Lee Mund and Joel Schwartz emerged victorious. The victors gathered at D-Lux restaurant  in ShopRite Plaza to celebrate together with some of those who supported their campaigns, as well as school board members Yitzchok Zlatkin, Tracey Tift, Chesky Seitler and Carl Fink.

The school budget was rejected by voters by a significant margin.

In yesterday’s election, Lee Mund received 3,015 votes (17.90%), Joel Schwartz received 2,910 votes (17.28%), Yoni Silver received 3,079 votes (18.28%), Meir Singer received 2,560 votes (15.20%), Irene Miccio received 2,715 votes (16.12%), Meir Grunhut received 2,487 votes (14.77%), and there were 74 write-in votes. A total of 16,840 votes were cast.

The budget was voted down by a margin of 2,966 votes (81.39%) to 678 votes (18.61%).

“With enough robo calls and recordings to tie up all phone lines in Lakewood this past week, it’s good this election is over,” one askan remarked dryly. “It felt more like color war than a school board race, to be quite frank.”

As for who truly won and lost, and how taxpayers will be impacted, only time will tell, added the askan.
