[Final results and updates below.] Lakewood, NJ – With two seats on the Township Committee up for election today, Lakewood residents went to the polls to decide on the posts currently held by Steven Langert, a Republican, and Ray Coles, a Democrat. Both are running for reelection. Joining them on the ballot are Hal Halvorsen (R) and Moshe Raitzik (D).

On the state level, today’s election is a unique one for Ocean County. The 30th district was recently redrawn during the redistricting process following the 2010 census. The new district is a combination of the districts governed by Senator Bob Singer and Senator Sean Kean of Wall Township. Kean decided not to run in a Republican primary against Senator Singer, who has served in the State Senate for 18 years. He also served on the Lakewood Township Committee for thirty years before stepping down last year. Instead, Kean is running for State Assembly, where he previously served for four years. Singer is challenged by Steve Morlino, chairman of the Howell Democratic Party.

The field is crowded in the election for Assembly. With two seats up for election, there are five candidates. Aside from Kean, Assemblyman David Rible, also a Republican, is trying to keep his seat. The Democrats on the ballot are Lakewood’s own Howard Kleinhendler, a lawyer, and Sean O’Rourke, a retired teacher who previously served on the Point Pleasant Borough Council. Kleinhendler made an unsuccessful bid in 2010 for Lakewood’s Congressional seat held by Chris Smith. Libertarian David Schneck, a technical writer for an auto parts company, is also running.

Update, 9:03 p.m.: Langert, Coles, Singer, Rible and Kean, who were all endorsed by the Lakewood Vaad, have emerged victorious based on the poll numbers.

At the present time, with polls closed, the results are as follows (numbers are constantly being updated):
