biur-chometzThis month, Lakewood, NJ, Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein met with Lakewood’s Public Works Department and fire officials to review the annual township biur chometz plan. This year, the locations of public biur chometz sites will be as follows:

1. The Bais Medrash Govoah parking lot, on Seventh Street between Forest Avenue and Private Way.

2. The former Little League fields off of Clifton Avenue, between Ninth and Tenth Streets. This new location was arranged because the former site of the Lakewood Cheder parking lot, at the corner of Clifton Avenue and 10th Street, is unavailable this year due to the ongoing construction of Bais Medrash Govoah’s new Bais Aron Bais Medrash.

“To help facilitate smooth traffic flow and ample parking during biur chometz at that location,” Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller said, “we have designated Ninth and Tenth Streets as one-way thoroughfares for the duration of the burning of the chometz.”

3.   Khal Zichron Yaakov, Rabbi Gissinger’s shul, on Sunset Road.

4.   Congregation Sons of Israel, at the corner of Madison Avenue and Sixth Street.

5. The parking lot of the Chateau Grand on River Avenue.

As in the past, the Fire Marshall has said that no items wrapped in foil will be permitted because they do not burn. Additionally, the Fire Marshal has requested that no bottles of beer or whiskey be put into the fire as they can cause an explosion.

Likewise, plastic should not be placed in any fire as unhealthy fumes are released.

Please note that it is unlawful for Lakewood residents to create their own fires for burning chometz.
