Lakewood, NJ – In light of the impending snowstorm, all public schools in Lakewood, NJ, will be closed today.

Morning busing for all mosdos have been cancelled following an early morning conference call. More detailed information regarding school scheduling will be released after 8 a.m.

[Update, 8:30 a.m.: Afternoon busing has been cancelled as well.]

Local residents awoke this morning to find that the storm hadn’t moved in yet, but meteorologists say that they are expecting snow to be falling hard – perhaps as intensely as 2 inches per hour – during the heart of the morning rush hour.

Matzav.com spoke to several roshei mosdos, who encouraged residents to call their respective school hotlines after 8 a.m. for updates regarding class scheduling and afternoon busing.

The Department of Public Works is mobilized and ready to deal with the storm, having already salted many of the township roads in advance of the snowfall.

Meanwhile, Governor Chris Christie has announced that state offices will be closed today for all non-essential employees.

In its latest snowfall forecast, the weather service said it’s expecting 8 to 12 inches of snow across northern New Jersey. It also expanded that zone of heavy snow to now include most of central New Jersey.

Update, 8:40 a.m.: Many, if not most, local yeshivos, chadorim and girls schools have cancelled classes for today due to hazardous road conditions. The Lakewood Cheder, Orchos Chaim, Ohr Yehuda, SCHI, Bais Faiga, Bais Tova, Bnos Devorah, and many other mosdos will be closed. Residents should call their respective schools for confirmation.

Update, 9:35 a.m.: Tonight’s Township Committee meeting has been cancelled.
