Lapid: We’ll Quit Gov’t If Chareidim Aren’t Drafted

yair-lapidYesh Atid chairman and Minister of Finance Yair Lapid says that his party will quit the government unless the Perry Committee’s proposal for the drafting of charedim into the IDF is accepted.

“I want to be absolutely clear: there will be an equal sharing of the burden, or this government will be dissolved,” he told a meeting of the party’s MKs, according to Globes.

“From the beginning, Yesh Atid decided to be the responsible part of the government, on the budget, Knesset votes, and I have paid a price for sitting in the coalition in a difficult job. If anyone thinks that I entered politics just to solve the catastrophe left by the previous government, he does not understand. Anyone who thinks that we will fold on the issue of equal sharing of the burden simply does not understand us and does not know us,” Lapid said.

“Any attempt to torpedo the Perry Committee in favor of the haredi politicians will result in the dissolving of the coalition. There is an historic opportunity here to correct this wound which is bleeding in the heart of Israeli society. Those who try to foil the law harm the country and the principle that every young man goes to the draft office to be inducted. I call on the coalition parties, beginning with the ruling party, to regain their composure and behave properly. This game jeopardizes the existence of this government, and is preventing the correction of a historic injustice whose time should come to an end.”

  1. This Lapid is so arrogant he makes Bl$$mberg look tame! Oh please please, with a cherry on top, carry out your threat! Please dissolve the coalition! I can’t wait untill you become worthless pieces of meat! Show us you’re a man and carry out your threat!

  2. La La La hey, hey good bye!
    VeLavan beekaish laakor ess hakol!
Lavan is Rashay Tayvos Lapid, Benett Netanyahu! It won’t work!
(Vaiz and Baiz are the same letter!)

  3. “Yair Lapid says that his party will quit the government unless the Perry Committee’s proposal for the drafting of charedim into the IDF is accepted.”

Go Yair Go! The sooner the better!

  4. I wouldn’t get to excited here. If Lapid runs on the draft agenda he could become the next prime minister. There’s a huge hatred for everything charedi in eretz yisroel. Those in the know like Reb Arron Leib Shteinman are calling for more learning and tfila. This is not just a political matter it’s very serious.

  5. For all of you who are “excited” about Mr. Lapid’s threat to quit:

If Yesh Atid leaves the coalition and brings down the government, new elections will be required.

And Mr. Lapid will be elected Prime Minister.

You better be careful of what you wish for.

  6. If Lapid quits, then the government coalition collapses. Do you guys really hate him so much you’d rather not have a functioning govt. than have him in??

  7. Not such a simple threat to uphold. Government collapse unless they invite Labor, UTJ or Shas to join….if any of them will. Lapid is arrogant and determined to change the ‘game field’. He will get this law passed R”L with many changes and the dangers will be minimized.

  8. Doubt that the public by now doesn’t see him for who he is and, hopefully, he can never be elected as a prime minister. If ever there was an unqualified leader, it would be Lapid, but as the saying goes, the public gets the leader they deserve. Mercy!

  9. Make our day, Yair, but don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Deadlock with no coalition is far better than insane action with one.

  10. If Lapid quits, the only way the government collapses is if Bennett leaves too and Netanyahu can’t get Labor, Shas and UTJ on board.
If only Yesh Atid leaves, Netanyahu can get the charedi parties on board instead – there is a difference of 1 seat, that’s all.

As far as Lapid being the next prime minister, don’t bet on it. The Israeli public is not as anti-chareidi as its media would have the world believe.

Lapid’s popularity has come down considerably.
