larry-kingAppearing on Tuesday’s NBC Today, former CNN talk show host Larry King ridiculed his former employer when asked if he would ever return to the cable channel: “The tough time I would have at CNN now, I think, would be doing this airplane story. Because I think I’d crack up laughing. I think I would have – you know, how many times can you cover a plane? Six weeks and all we know is it made a left turn.” [Listen to the audio]
Co-host Willie Geist asked: “So you wouldn’t do that story?” King replied: “Well, what if they forced me to? I would probably not want to do it. I think it would get embarrassing after a while.”

The exchange was prompted by Geist referencing Piers Morgan leaving the network: “I’ve got to tell you, CNN’s primetime is in a little bit of flux. Your old slot opened up not long ago. If CNN called you today and said, ‘Larry, we want you back,’ you would say what?”

King initially warmed to the idea: “You gotta call Larry King Now…I’d have to do both. I could not leave the internet, I’m committed to it and it’s a wonderful show….But I’d be interested. I’m a workaholic. I’d be interested in doing it.”

After slamming CNN’s non-stop coverage of the missing Malaysian flight, King concluded: “But I have great respect for CNN. I had a wonderful 26 years there, that’s a long time. They were fine to me, I was pretty good for them.”

Here is a transcript of the May 6 exchange:

WILLIE GEIST: You’ve been very open about the fact that you miss live TV. You miss the daily interaction with the staff and with the guests. I’ve got to tell you, CNN’s primetime is in a little bit of flux. Your old slot opened up not long ago. If CNN called you today and said, “Larry, we want you back,” you would say what?

LARRY KING: You gotta call Larry King Now, you gotta call people involved in – and I’d have to do both. I could not leave the internet, I’m committed to it and it’s a wonderful show. I love the crew. Great cast. But I’d be interested. I’m a workaholic. I’d be interested in doing it.

What I miss about live TV is first, it’s happening right then. And you get on top of a news story and run with it. And I love that. And that’s one thing I miss, because we tape our show. But we have a great crew. I love the informality of it. I don’t have any suits to deal with. It’s a lot easier to do without drama.

And the tough time I would have at CNN now, I think, would be doing this airplane story. Because I think I’d crack up laughing. I think I would have – you know, how many times can you cover a plane? Six weeks and all we know is it made a left turn.

GEIST: So you wouldn’t do that story?

KING: Well, what if they forced me to? I would probably not want to do it. I think it would get embarrassing after a while.

But I have great respect for CNN. I had a wonderful 26 years there, that’s a long time. They were fine to me, I was pretty good for them.

  1. CNN is the new high stakes future on the lost consideration of erased history. Right for only the training of bad taste. Never again.

  2. I’ve been saying this for weeks already. Its really time to move on from this tragic story. The familys involved have to accept that their loved ones are no longer alive. It was a quick death. The media should be silent on this matter. When & if they have in their hands real items from the victims, they should publicize it at that point. To have all these “spokspeople” from Chelm, come out every day with false hopes of this location & that location and this debris & that debris, and it always turns out to be false, is crying wolf of the worst kind! Enough already! STOP!

  3. #2, if they were Jewish then there would not be enough information to be mattir their wives to remarry.

Additionally, if CH”V it was your family member, I doubt your attitude would be the same.

  4. It is easy for people unaffected by this tragedy to say “enough”. It depends on what you think news coverage is…. is it entertainment or is it information? The truth is that in our modern age is very suspicious what happened to that plane. I believe that the minute they will stop talking about it then the lives of over 200 people will become just some news to talk about and them “next entertainment”. I do not accept that the plane just vanished…..If these passengers were your relatives (R’L) your opinion would have been different… Do NOT Stop!

  5. You missed my point. By “reporting” these false hope theories, you are hurting the families even more. The Malaysian & Austerlian Governments have given FALSE “reports” of location & debris over & over again. Who can believe them at this point? As far as this conspiracy that the passengers are alive somewhere in Iran, Simbatyon, or G-d knows where, only someone with the brain capacity of a 3 year old, believes such gibberish.

  6. No so! I did not missed your point! The Malaysian and Australians did not give false reports they said they ware checking into possible leads and they ware. I did not say anything about conspiracy but I did say is very suspicious what happened to the plane and you can’t tell the victims families that the plane just disappeared! And please be honest and tell me that if this were your relatives you would have been saying the same thing? surely not! keep the report coming until we get answers!
a cold heart is not good for Jews!
